African leopard tortoises are one of the largest species of tortoises found in Africa and parts of Asia. They have a distinctive yellowish-brown shell with dark brown spots and can grow up to 30 inches in length, weighing around 70-100 pounds. These gentle creatures are herbivores, feeding on grasses, leaves, and fruits. In the wild, they roam freely in their natural habitats, often living up to 50 years or more. Despite their size, African leopard tortoises are relatively slow-moving and can be seen basking in the sun, absorbing heat for hours.
