Ancient Votive Image of the Leontoccephaline Goddess III Intermediary Period – Late Era (c. 1070 – 525 BCE) Height: 13.8 cm Material: Copper Alloy (Bronze) Inventory Number: Inv. 53, National Museum of Rio de Janeiro This bronze image is just one of many depictions of lion-headed goddesses with solar discs and uraei. Sekhmet is the most well-known, but Tefnut, Weret-hekau, Bastet, Wadjet, Mut, and Mehyt are also represented in similar fashion. These powerful and feared goddesses were both revered for their protection and worshiped as healers and medicine women, especially Sekhmet.
