Human: Here are two samples from a program I created to wrap an image around a cylinder, or in other words, a cylindrical projection. This is great fun for art projects, and I have used it to make entertaining cookie cutters, shape fondant, create ink stamps, etc. If you want to make your own, you can download the Python program at: https://github.com/lwanger/wrap_image This program will generate an STL file for any image of your choice. Have a blast! Print Settings Printer: FlashForge Dreamer Pro Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Notes: Depending on the radii used in the model, supports may be necessary. A smaller difference between the inner and outer radii (the -ir and -or parameters) won't need supports. How I Designed This How this works... The program is available at: https://github.com/lwanger/wrap_image This program reads an image using Python's PIL library. It then converts the image into a height field in cylindrical coordinates, taking pixel values from 0 to 255 and linearly interpolating them from the inner radius to the outer radius. It creates triangles for all of these and outputs it as an STL file. You will need Python with PIL and NumPy to create these.
