Illuminated rotating sphere stand
thingiverse
In love with the translucent moon posted here by "moononournation" (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4102658 , scaled 50% in my case) I designed this very small stand that handles both illumination and rotation of the moon. The stand is powered by an Arduino micro I had laying around (it had pre soldered pins so case is adapted for those measures) and a crappy 9g servo modified for continuous rotation. Design should be easy to adapt to both other translucent spherical objects (thinking of a Death Star next :) ), or as a rotating stand for basically any small object. A knob allows to control the rotation direction and speed while a button cycles through the available colors (basic selection at the moment, will update Arduino code soon). I removed the useless parts from the servo to save space (bottom and top covers), but not all small servos are made equal so can't guarantee that it will work with other models, altho, scaling the 3d printed gear connected to the servo should allow to adapt do different measures. Being everything custom designed for my specific needs I needed no glue, but it could help if using different parts (Arduino micro with or without pins, servo etc). Non printed parts: - Arduino Micro - RGB led - 9g servo (modified for continuous rotation, plenty of tutorials on youtube on how to do it) - 1 small potentiometer - 1 small button (Assembly should be pretty straightforward given the pictures and few pieces) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2YrNT7WxWU UPDATE 1: Uploaded a new lid which fits better (more tightly) and holds the gears better, print it upside down and possibly use "ironing" on the top layer to allow for smoother gear rotation.
