Illuminated Cufflinks
thingiverse
As the ballroom season kicks in, it's high time to give my cufflinks a stylish upgrade to match my smoking habit. This project leverages Adafruit sewable Neopixels embedded in cuffs crafted from transparent PLA plastic. To power these dazzling lights, I utilized an Adafruit Gemma board but can choose from a range of alternatives. I connected the cap and pin with minimal effort as they were already quite snug. In fact, they fitted so tightly that I had to use pliers to give them a firm push together. Here are the print settings used: Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer Model: MakerBot Replicator (5th Generation) Use Rafts: Yes Supports Required: Yes Layer Resolution: 0.1mm Infill Percentage: 100% A notable point is that I printed the cap with the opening facing downwards, resulting in a trade-off between requiring supports and having a clean outside finish. The shell also gained strength from being squeezed in place.
