The bronze fountain known as Il Porcellino, or "little pig," is a beloved landmark in Florence. It was crafted and cast by renowned artist Pietro Tacca before 1634, using a marble replica of an ancient Hellenistic original that had been relocated to the Uffizi Museum's classical section from the Medici collections. The ancient relic itself, discovered in Rome and brought to Florence during the mid-16th century, was linked to the legendary Calydonian Boar of Greek mythology since its rediscovery.
