Entry to RIBAJ Room Within a Room Competition Submission by WNS Architects. A Room of One's Own is not just a phrase coined by Virginia Woolf, but also the philosophy guiding our submission for the RIBAJ Room Within a Room competition. We envision a space that redefines the boundaries between the self and the world. A sanctuary where one can retreat from the chaos outside and find solace in the stillness within. Our design, titled "Cocoon," is an exercise in minimalism, simplicity, and elegance. The room itself is a cube, approximately 3 meters on each side, with walls composed of layers of translucent glass, aluminum, and wood. The exterior surface is clad in a lattice-like pattern of interlocking wooden slats, creating a sense of depth and texture. As the light passes through the glass, it casts an ethereal glow on the surrounding environment, making the room appear as if it's floating. Upon entering the space, one is enveloped by a sense of calmness. The interior walls are adorned with a series of LED lights that pulse in sync with the heartbeat, creating a soothing ambiance. The floor is covered with a plush, white carpet that feels like walking on clouds. The room's functionality is just as impressive as its aesthetic appeal. A built-in desk and chair provide ample space for work or contemplation. A small library shelf holds a collection of carefully curated books, while a floor-to-ceiling bookcase behind the desk offers additional storage for personal belongings. Our design philosophy is rooted in the idea that a room should be an extension of one's self. We believe that by creating a space that nurtures the mind, body, and soul, we can foster a deeper connection with oneself and the world around us. In designing Cocoon, we aimed to create a space that embodies this philosophy. A space where one can retreat from the world, recharge, and emerge renewed. Our submission for the RIBAJ Room Within a Room competition is not just a design; it's an invitation to experience the serenity of being alone in a world that often feels overwhelming.
