The Soviet Union's Ilyushin design bureau created the multi-role Il-76, also known as Candid by NATO, in 1967. This four-engine turbofan aircraft was initially planned for commercial freight purposes to replace the Antonov An-12. It excels at delivering heavy equipment to hard-to-reach locations. The military version of Il-76 has found extensive use across Europe, Asia, and Africa, serving functions such as aerial refueling tanker or command post.
