One of our Stolmen (IKEA) shelves suddenly collapsed one day. The plastic insert was broken and could not be obtained from Ikea. Since the appearance of the shelf supports had also been changed in the meantime, it was not possible to replace the whole column.Thank goodness for 3D printing. Because of the stability, the replacement was printed from PC.The model can be printed upright as shown on the pictures. Support is only necessary for the recess of the nut. The original nut and screw can be used again.The insert fits very strong, so you have to use some force to push it into the tube and also to insert the nut. That is why the print requires a sturdy material, also because of the load of a full shelf resting on the insert and the nut. Meanwhile, I would print it from carbon fibre reinforced nylon - I love this material, but the PC printed part also continues to last since over two years.
