IKEA Samla Insert Wedge
thingiverse
The IKEA Samla tray is a remarkably handy and cost-effective storage solution with one significant design limitation. Unfortunately, it tends to fold under load and collapse into its containing box if you pack more than a couple pounds worth of items inside. This poses an issue when utilizing the product as intended – specifically, as a versatile toolbox. To resolve this structural vulnerability, I designed a stabilizing wedge that prevents the insert from compromising its shape under weight. Its robust geometry enables successful printing using low infill settings, making 15% adequate while 10% would be sufficient for maximum support. For enhanced stability and a seamless fit, double-sided tape was applied to secure the device in place – an internal screw could also provide a suitable attachment solution.
