IKEA Racka Endcap
thingiverse
We adore IKEA. Our purchases have always arrived complete with every part included, so we were truly astonished to discover that an endcap was missing from a curtain rod purchased at their store. I could have contacted IKEA's customer service department, but they are known for being extremely helpful and probably would have sent me a replacement without any issues. However, where's the fun in that? It's much more exciting to design and manufacture my own repair parts. The endcap is a simple plug with a threaded hole at one end, allowing it to be securely attached to the finial. The plug itself features a small bump along its length, which helps keep it firmly in place. I forgot that curtain rods typically consist of two separate rods - an inner rod fits snugly within the outer rod, making the total length adjustable. I was missing the cap for the larger rod, but the first time through I measured the inside diameter of the smaller rod. Here are the replacement parts needed for both rods. Next step: designing and manufacturing some more unique finials to attach to our curtain rods. How about a pair featuring moose antlers?
