This lamp won't work right if you don't hook it up to the ceiling using Ikea's PS2014 lamp hardware. You should know that this lamp won't stay closed on its own and its weight causes it to swing open, which is why I'm going to add a motor to control opening and closing. The foot of the lamp needs to be wide enough to fit the power source inside, so I can hide the wiring. I'll install it in place of the light stand, but I plan to replace the bulb with an LED strip instead.
