IKEA LACK ENCLOSURE - magnetic front/sides
thingiverse
Edits (June 10):\r\n* added picture of my prints - labeled with which corner they are for. I wanted two removable sides, front and left.\r\n* added screenshot of Cura Post processing plugin settings for hidden magnet pockets. These settings are based on 0.4mm layer height; check your slicer and adjust to suit. You want the "pause" at the last layer where it's printing the pocket.\r\n* added video of hidden pocket magnets: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wd9Tb3mzlqs\r\n\r\n(June 8):\r\n* revised lower leg parts, the pockets were far too tight. Added a small hole at the bottom to assist with releasing the magnet if needed.\r\n* added new "hidden" magnet holders. You'll need to pause the print or slow it down to drop the magnets in; then watch the printer hide them. Warning: be sure to test if the magnet sticks to your hotend first! In Cura, you can use the Post-Processing step to add a pause at the last printed "hole" layer... I think it's layer 7.\r\n\r\n(May 26):\r\n* added a second generic top and bottom to allow for more flexibility. Front and sides are removable.\r\n* added smooth CW & CCW screw fittings. If you haven't printed leg extensions yet, you can get away with only printing the CW version (and print four CW leg extensions). The CCW one is only needed for retrofitting an existing one (so you don't have to re-print a leg extension as well!\r\n\r\n------\r\nSmall remix of thebeetleuk's amazing design.\r\n\r\nHonestly, I've been struggling to build a Lack enclosure myself. When I found his design, it was so close! The only thing I changed is a removable front panel - held in by strong magnets.\r\n\r\nFor the magnets, check out Amazon:\r\nhttps://www.amazon.ca/Powerful-Disc-Neodymium-Magnets-Pack/dp/B072C7FTGW\r\nIf those are not regional, I used ones that are: 31.49mm across x 1.75mm thick.\r\n\r\nThis is a remix of the 2mm size; only the changed components are included. Refer to the original design for the remaining parts.\r\n\r\nNew Parts Descriptions:\r\nTop corners:\r\nTwo Top Corner singles - you'll need these two; they transition from removable panels to fixed. (Use your slicer to mirror the second one.)\r\nOne to four Top Corner double magnets - use one if you want two sides removable, or two if you want three sides removable... or, if you want all four sides removable, use four (and don't print the "Top Corner single" at all).\r\n\r\nBottom Corners:\r\nTwo Front Bottom singles - same story as the tops. Whatever layout you print for the tops, do the same for the bottom. Don't forget to mirror one of the "single" ones if you go that route.\r\nOne to four Top Corner double magnets\r\nSmooth Screw fittings (no supports) - use these with the "double magnet" designs above. If you go single magnets, simply use the part from the original design.\r\n\r\nTwo Panel Pulls (for the outside of the acrylic/plexi sheet). I recommend putting them at the top... using epoxy or Crazy Glue to stick them.\r\nOr Two Panel Pulls (for the outside of the acrylic/plexi sheet). I recommend putting them at the top... using epoxy or Crazy Glue to stick them.\r\n\r\nAssembly:\r\nEverything as per the original, except the front panel components.\r\nOne. Insert a magnet in each fitting; be sure to press it down so it "clicks" in place.\r\nTwo. Mask off the corner of your 2mm acrylic or plexiglass and rough up the area where the 'Magnet Holder' or 'Panel Pull' will be placed.\r\n\r\n(I designed the 'pulls' to be placed at the top as I found it easier to pull the top out and let gravity pull the bottom two magnets away)\r\n\r\nOnce you've roughed up the area, use superglue to epoxy to adhere the pulls and holders to the outside of the sheet. I rough fit them and then let it cure in place overnight... letting the magnets "clamp" the parts to the sheet.
