Ikea IVAR Shelf Bracket/Strut
prusaprinters
Ikea's IVAR shelf system is extremely customizable, but a little bit floppy even with the included OBSERVATOR cross-brace. We wanted to add some more stability, so I created some struts to attach to the back of the shelf. The four screw holes that are not countersunk are 5mm ID, which just enough for a #10 wood screw, though I intend to use #8 cabinet screws (similar to https://amzn.to/2P4MBFi). The two countersunk screw holes are for #8x3/4" screws. The model whose title includes "extra screw" has space for another #8 washer head screw if you'd prefer to secure to secure from a different direction. I have test fitted it and it seems about right, and I hope to add some pictures of it installed once they're all done printing. The F3D file is included if you've like to make your own version. Print Settings Printer Brand: Prusa Printer: i3 MK3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.3mm Infill: 40% gyroid Filament: MakerGeeks Raptor Crystal PLA Yellow Notes: I chose not to use woodfill for this because it's purported to have lower strength, while the reviews for MakerGeeks' Raptor PLA seem to indicate that it's tough stuff. Certainly, at 40% infill, this has very little give. How I Designed This =================== I measured a couple of my shelves for thickness in various places and they were all 18.2mm +/- 0.1, so the dimensions I used for the shelf thickness in the model is 18.5mm since I don't want to have to hammer this on. With my printer's settings, this gives a good fit without being too loose or too snug. I found the vertical post to be ~43.8mm. The two countersunk screw holes are included so that there's more shear resistance to the diagonal portion of the brace, which will experience significant stress in its weakest direction. Whenever a print is going to be exposed to forces that pull layers apart, I like to include something to keep the layers under compression. Category: Household
