IKEA's sense of humor is quite unique, as they sell an IVAR shelf system drawer that can only fit one small SMÄCKER cutlery tray - and even then, it fits sideways. This setup has two major drawbacks: the silverware ends up in a less-than-ideal position, making rear items hard to access, and IKEA's silverware comes with five utensils, while SMÄCKER only has four suitably sized slots. To address these issues, I designed a custom insert for the IVAR drawer. This design is split into three pieces, allowing it to fit a standard print surface when carefully placed. The central core was printed upright at 0.3mm layer height in PLA, while the thin sidewalls serve as a customized brim to ensure the print adheres to the printing surface. The two flanking parts are best printed with higher resolution and the flat outer wall facing toward the print surface. They should interlock easily and can be secured together using PLA, superglue, or a 3D print pen. The finished item is surprisingly robust and capable of carrying a fully loaded tray.
