IKEA Fork / Spoon Handle

IKEA Fork / Spoon Handle

thingiverse

My wife occasionally suffers from joint problems. When her joints are in pain and swollen, she struggles to hold a fork or spoon in her hand. There is "orthopedic" silverware with thicker handles available for purchase, but it's often expensive and unappealing. We wanted to create something that would benefit everyone by designing a 3D-printable handle for widely used (and easily accessible) IKEA forks and spoons. This solution was born out of necessity. I designed the fork in OpenSCAD so that its parameters could be customized if someone prefers a thicker handle or uses a different fork. The source code is available on Github (https://github.com/coredump-ch/3d-designs/tree/master/fork_handle), licensed under CC BY-SA, allowing others to benefit as well. The handle fits IKEA's "Dragon" Forks / Spoons perfectly. Print Settings: Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer: Ultimaker 2 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.1mm Infill: 15-20% Notes: I achieved great results printing at 35mm/s. Post-Printing: To assemble, simply put the two parts together and secure them with rubber bands for added stability. Design Process My goal was to create a solution that would alleviate my wife's joint pain when using IKEA forks and spoons. I wanted something that would benefit everyone, so I designed a 3D-printable handle that could be customized to fit various fork types. The design is versatile, allowing users to adjust the thickness of the handle to suit their needs. The source code for the OpenSCAD design is available on Github, making it easy for others to modify and benefit from this solution as well. The handle is specifically designed to fit IKEA's "Dragon" Forks / Spoons, ensuring a seamless integration with existing utensils.
