IKEA FLYGEL Lamp Support

IKEA FLYGEL Lamp Support

The FLYGEL lamp from IKEA is a budget-friendly Halogen desk lamp that falls short due to its fragile support struts. The supports are so weak they frequently give way, allowing the lamp to slowly slide down. Any slight pressure will cause the supports to break. To overcome this issue, I designed and printed a replacement for the support struts. Begin by removing the lamp arm by unscrewing both side bolts completely on each side. Use pliers or a dremel to detach the old struts; I employed pliers and found it surprisingly simple to snap off the remaining undamaged strut. Afterward, clean up any rough edges with a file or sandpaper. You will need to print two identical versions of these components: the holder and the strut. Place the two struts between the holders, ensuring their ring faces are outward, and secure them in place using glue. Next, position the completed support unit into its designated spot - I unplugged the lamp and removed the base for better access - allowing the half rings to rest on the outside of the base. When properly positioned, apply glue for added security; although it's not necessary, it does make a significant difference. The new supports wrap entirely around the lamp, making them not only stronger but also more secure. The Inventor files are included if you wish to modify or adapt this design for use with a similar lamp.
