What It Is: Simple yet effective clips for mounting three of four Dioder IKEA LED strips to the top left, right, and front of your Ultimaker 1. Minimalistic design emphasizes pure functionality. The clips function by clipping onto the frame and clipping onto the strips - no drilling or bolts required. Strips are angled for optimal illumination. What You Get: Two distinct clips: one larger clip is used in the front as this LED strip must fit inside the frame. The other clip handles left and right strips. Best to attach side clips to the LED strip first, then slide the clips up from the bottom, clipping over top. For the front, fasten clips to the frame first, then snap in the strip. Secure fit ensures it won't budge. Just as easy to remove. What You Need to Know: The side strips just barely clear the frame opening; I trimmed 1 mm off the small plug that connects the strip, stopping short of the contacts (see photo). Now it fits seamlessly. About Printing: Place all six pieces - two for front, two each for sides - on the bed. I reduced infill to 15% as those LEDs don't weigh much. First print was with brim but didn't need it. Why I Did It: I examined some clips and thought this would be a nice project - my Ultimaker is one week old. Aimed for minimalistic, hassle-free design - no holes to drill, no bolts, no loose ends. Drew the profile in Sketchup and initially extruded to 10mm, but these are 8mm which is more than sufficient. Installing the LEDs: Shortened LED connector by 1-2 mm with a metal blade saw so it fits inside the side frame openings. Front strip is fully enclosed since the strip is too long for the frame opening. Hacked the IKEA plug and removed the transformer component, securing it to the bottom along with the small distributor using hot glue (I'm not familiar enough with electronics to tamper with Ultimaker's power supply). Installed a switchable power jack near other inputs. Shortened cables (they were excessively long) and routed them down the sleeves. So?
