Ikea Blimp Neopixel Mount
prusaprinters
The Ikea Blimp (now discontinued) was brilliant. It was essentially a non-rotating ceiling mounted disco ball that shines stars, spaceships and moons in different colours. The bulb however was an incandescent and when it blew I had the genius idea of replacing the single bulb with one neopixel per light cone. …and then I had to work out how to make clear optical lenses to replace the coloured ones it came with.So this post has two things, the internal cone LED mounts for the neopixel dots and a 3D model of the lens. I have made the lenses in the top half from cast resin and they function brilliantly and for the bottom half I tried resin 3D printing and dipping and curing. They function, but are blurred which is a shame. I'm intruiged to try again at some point with different resins to see if I can create a good lens, but resin is costly :D oh and my 3D Printer died so I had to make the bottom half's LED mounts using laser cut wood, so I've attached that SVG here too. I use 3.3mm thick birch ply.
