IKEA Billy Shelf Label
thingiverse
Wanted some custom labels for my IKEA Billy Bookcases to identify and organize my books, DVDs, CDs, and other media. The STLs I used are designed with an angled backside to ensure a snug fit. There are two main widths of Billy Bookcase, each requiring different shelf thicknesses - the narrow version has 0.75" thick shelves, while the standard version features 0.80" thick ones. To create these labels, I made a text box that's 3/4" high and adjusted its width to match the length of my words. The label frame is mirrored and reversed to make it easy to read. I then laser-printed the text onto white paper - inkjet printing won't work, so it's essential to use a laser printer. When preparing the STL model for slicing, I had to adjust its Z-height to fit the length of my text box. I unchecked uniform scaling, allowing me to only adjust the Z-axis dimension. This ensured that each layer would be sliced with a single filament line width. After printing, I used the Mod Podge Image Transfer Technique to transfer the laser-printed paper onto the 3D printed labels.
