The latest batch of Ikea Billy bookshelves appears to be constructed with subpar materials. My own units collapsed just days prior, with the side panels buckling and the boards plummeting downward before coming to rest in a heap at the bottom. This weakness is directly attributable to the poorly designed connection between the horizontal slats and vertical side walls. To rectify this issue, I created a simple repair component. Now, users can secure the connection using just three screws. The middle hole in the row of three serves as a mounting point for a 5 mm pin, which can be sourced from most hardware stores - a feature that was once standard on older Billy models. By incorporating this 5 mm pin, users can achieve precise alignment with the repair part. I designed the hole to measure exactly 5 mm in diameter using Tinkercad, but found it necessary to re-drill the hole after printing to ensure a snug fit for the actual 4.9 mm pin - a modification that proved successful.
