Ikea Alex bins, again
thingiverse
So I needed to get all my DIY projects organized in one place. I looked at several YouTube channels where people build their own versions from scratch, but I decided that buying an IKEA Alex was the best solution for a couple reasons - it's fast and affordable. I checked out many different designs here on Thingiverse, but none of them fit what I needed or printed properly on my machines. I have two printers, an Anycubic Chiron and an Anycubic 4Max, so I tried a few different settings in spiral mode, but the larger prints didn't work out. I probably could have tweaked the settings some more, but instead I decided to design my own version. Since the ratio of print time is similar for all sizes from 1x1 to 3x3, you can mix and match to get what you need. One thing to keep in mind with the IKEA Alex is that because the drawer doesn't fully open, you'll need to use a 3xX box on the back row so you can read the label. Since the print time is about the same for all sizes, a full bed for the Chiron takes around 18 hours and a full bed for the 4Max takes about 8 hours. I started printing with supports to get a better quality label face, but it just went through filament like crazy - it didn't affect the print time too much though. So, I kept tweaking the design until I could print without supports and still get a decent quality label face. If you tighten up the parameters, you can get really good quality boxes, but I chose speed over quality since it takes 70 square inches times 5 to fill one box - that's why I opted for speed. My prints are still pretty good and totally usable from my printers, so I'm happy with how they turned out. I've also added a 2x3 box design.
