IJN Takao
thingiverse
Takao was the lead ship in a class of heavy cruisers that played a significant role during World War II with the Imperial Japanese Navy. These ships were the largest and most advanced in the Japanese fleet, designed to form the backbone of a long-range strike force capable of performing multiple tasks. Her sister ships included Atago, Maya, and Chōkai. Takao was named after Mount Takao and was commissioned on May 31, 1932. She was built at the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal and had a displacement of 9,850 tons when standard and 15,490 tons at full load. Her length between perpendiculars measured 192.5 meters, while her overall length was 203.76 meters. Takao's propulsion system consisted of four geared turbines powered by twelve Kampon boilers, producing 132,000 horsepower. This enabled the ship to reach speeds of up to 35.5 knots and had a range of 8,500 nautical miles at 14 knots. The initial armament on Takao included ten 20 cm/50 guns in five dual turrets, four 12 cm/45 guns in single mounts, two anti-aircraft guns, and torpedoes. The ship's armament was upgraded later to include eight Type 89 dual-purpose guns and a large number of anti-aircraft guns. Takao had a crew complement of 773 sailors and carried three floatplanes for reconnaissance and attack missions. Two aircraft catapults were also installed on the ship for launching these planes.
