This is one of the most original late-Romanesque churches in the Chaves area and one of those that reflects how, around the old city of Acquae Flaviae, a focus of relatively homogeneous architecture emerged as the turn for the 13th century began. The first documentary references to the church date back to 1235, a fact that attests its secure existence at this time. The project then outlined adapted to the limited financial conditions of the undertaking: a temple with a short single nave and a quadrangular choir room, covered by a wooden ceiling. The most interesting part, and the one that already reveals some opening up to proto-Gothic models (although it uses the scheme of perfect return) is located in the main entrance, whose two archivolts are profusely ornamented with capitals of vegetalistic and zoo-anthromorphic decoration.
