Igrane is a place in the Split-Dalmatia County, on the Makarska Riviera in the municipality of Podgora. A series of old restored houses on a steep slope, with newly built ones, create a harmonious whole of the settlement with 400 residents that slopes down towards the sea, harbor and long sandy beach. Above the place rises a slender bell tower of the Church of Our Lady of Ružarija, which seems to watch over the village. Igrane is today known as a tourist destination with numerous hotels, vacation houses and apartments, beautiful beaches, sports and entertainment events. Along the long beach towards Živogošća on a promenade, comfortable houses and villas have been built, cafes, shops and restaurants. Above Igrane, in ancient olive groves, there is a chapel of St. Michael from the 11th century, the most important medieval monument on the Makarska Riviera. Near the small harbor, a baroque summer house Šimić-Ivanišević was built in 1760. The sarcophagi found on the cemetery testify to the existence of the settlement even in Roman times, and the name Igrane is mentioned for the first time in 1466.
