Ignition Wrench Case - Fusion360
thingiverse
Overview I've owned several Craftsman Ignition Wrench sets over the years, each with a 'nice' vinyl protective bag. These bags have only lasted a year or less for me as I constantly open and close them at work. They fail in the same way every time - a hole forms in the bottom, followed by the top starting to rip, and finally, the plastic latch breaks off. So, I decided to design a case on my 3D printer. Print Settings Printer: Geeetech i3 pro c Rafts: Doesn't matter Supports: No Resolution: .2 Notes: A note for printing - due to the locking tabs and indentations, I printed with infill before perimeter. How I Designed This My first attempt was using FreeCad to design and print. It turned out great! Then I saw the 3D printing contest on Instructables and decided to enter it, but I realized that extra prizes were being given if the project was designed in Fusion 360! Looking into it, I discovered that Fusion 360 is expensive for businesses, but it's free for students (for three years) or hobbyists who won't sell their products. However, it does require renewal and must meet certain conditions. Custom Section So, I signed up First impressions - Wow, this program is powerful, quick, and easier to use than FreeCad! Since I was a beginner in FreeCad, I was initially intimidated, but I jumped right in and started exploring. After watching a few tutorials (which were short), I learned a few things and continued to 'learn' on my own. What better way to try the new program than to recreate something I had made in another program? So, I designed a case for my Craftsman Ignition Wrench set using Fusion 360. Custom Section conclusion Fusion 360 is definitely worth looking into - it's more powerful than I'll ever be able to use. It gives me the option to try new things in the future. As for the case, I printed an earlier version, but the top was a little too tall; however, it still works and fits perfectly in my tool bag pocket. I've since corrected the files and shared them here so you can print the perfect case. When I make the other tool holders, I'll print them at that time. Let me know if you print this and share a picture!
