The second church of San Nicolás de Tolentino in Cajabamba was built from 1605 as we have mentioned previously and remained active until 1812. Considering its ruined state and being very small and uncomfortable, it was demolished in the year 1812 with Father José Perea as Parish Priest, an advocate for Peruvian Independence who started building the third church, which is the one we know today.
