SAN PEDRO DE VIANA CHURCH - INTERIOR Its name may come from an old Benedictine monastery of the eleventh century that was located near the city and has since disappeared. It was the first church to rise in the thirteenth century, in what was then a village. Its strategic position, on the west flank of the walled enclosure and its powerful tower kept it from medieval times until the French period and the First Carlist War, as it was used as a barracks. In the eighteenth century, extensions were made, damaging the main walls causing collapse in 1844. A lateral nave, part of its head, the transept, the tower, largely dismantled in 1979, and the Baroque entrance portico remain standing. http://www.viana.es/iglesia-de-san-pedro/
