VBCI Infantry Fighting Vehicle Contractors Awarded Major Contract In November 2000, the French Ministry of Defence granted a large-scale contract to Giat Industries (now known as Nexter Group) and Renault VI (later merged into Renault Trucks Defense) for development and production of 65 VCI vehicles (54 standard models, plus 12 armed with Eryx missile system) and 11 heavy assault variants (VPC). As a result, the two major contractors formed a joint venture company called Satory Military Vehicles to lead the way on designing, building, testing and providing ongoing support for this high-tech vehicle system. Two years later, in September 2003, it was decided to close down this collaborative partnership project between Giat and Renault Trucks Defense due to disagreements over future strategies. Giat Industries (now known as Nexter Group) has been appointed prime contractor responsible for promoting the new VBCI armored personnel carrier in the global marketplace. Additionally, they are fully responsible for overall vehicle integration of systems including combat operations control and training, fire power upgrades and maintenance and repair support solutions that ensure seamless delivery of battlefield missions under any circumstances. In return, Renault Trucks Defense serves as prime contractor responsible for successful promotion, production, sales, supply and logistics management services regarding all existing military wheeled armoured personnel carriers VAB in the global defense market space. They provide end-to-end systems including on-board communication electronics hardware (tactical satellite communication networks), navigation units (radar guided gun laying optics system), mobile fuel pumps as well as on- board command posts which support mission requirements set forth by army general headquarters. Key aspects such as automotive systems (including driver stations) powerplants and transfer cases for VBCI have been taken over by Renault Trucks Defense from Giat. Also included are high speed driveshafts connecting steering columns, rear differential gearing mechanisms providing improved driving comfort through less vehicle bounce over long road routes, suspension and on board electric current networks (DC voltage output stabilizer units etc). Globally renowned manufacturer of highly specialized military vehicle armoring solutions provider is Nexter who will lead the manufacturing effort by installing armor plates across vehicle frames while also taking care of other critical parts such as vehicle interior outfitting including integration tasks around electronic system devices embedded into bodywork areas of this new VBCI series production units for end customer government defence forces and tactical team member transportation roles etc. Responsibility rests heavily on Nexter for the successful execution, supervision & completion testing in relation to development program objectives of new prototype variants (for eg Eryx missile system upgrade trials at firing range facilities).
