thingiverse
The iEXOS-100 equatorial mount has a problem where the clearance in the worm gear mesh is uneven during rotation. It is jammed in one position and loose in another which causes precise tracking issues. This project is a holder for wormshaft that should solve this problem. The backlash compensation is about 1mm and should be more than enough. There are a two stainless steel springs used to create preload in worm gear:D3.7 mmL20 mmThe bearing ball at the back side of drawer should have a diameter of 1 mm.Assembly:Place case on flat and levelled surface round hole down. put bearing balls in each groove.Insert drawer, make sure that balls are in place.Insert springs through back sides holes.Insert back plate to create springs tension. Keep eye on proper alignment of springs grooves on plate.Installation:Loosen two bolts that holds stepper motor holder.Loosen 4 bolts that holds stepper motor itself - this is important step.Swap cube shaped worm gear holder with assembled compensator and screw it firmly. Remember to move the bearing to compensator drawer.Create a tension by pressing the stepper motor holder against gear and tighten the screws on bottom. By doing that you can notice that drawer on compensator will move back. The gaps between drawer and its case should be even on both sides.Tighten the belt by pulling stepper motor gently. Tighten 4 screws that holds stepper motor.
