Provenance and description: This idol originates from the archaeological site of Herdade do Vidigal, a prehistoric habitat rich in history. It is a prehistoric ceramic idol that belongs to an extensive universe of "ritual" objects from the southwest of the Iberian peninsula. These idols were crafted in various materials such as bone, ivory, pottery or limestone. Their representations consistently feature anthropomorphic characters with diverse anatomical treatments, yet always bearing incisions on the face, commonly interpreted as facial tattoos.
