[idbox] Primary Extruder
thingiverse
This is a modified direct drive bowden extruder designed specifically for use with deagostini's idbox. It cannot be used as a secondary extruder due to its design, which causes it to come into contact with the y-axis bearing when mounted. This modification was inspired by scarou's compact bowden extruder and incorporates elements from midniteandy's filament funnel set and pacman helper disk v2. The following updates have been made: * January 29, 2017: Added Spring_Compressor.stl * March 2, 2017: Added Extruder_Body_Disks_SupportV2.stl * December 21, 2017: Added Spring_Compressor_V2.stl and Washer_Board.stl * December 28, 2017: Added Spring_Compressor_V2.1.stl To assemble this extruder, you will need the following components: * 1 x stepper motor (included in the idbox kit) * 1 x mk8 drive gear * Outer diameter: 9mm * Length: 11mm * Hob diameter: 7mm * Bore: 5mm You will also need the following screws and washers: * 1 x 625zz bearing (or 625-2rs bearing) * 1 x 608zz bearing (or 608-2rs bearing) * 2 x m3x8mm pan head screws * 2 x m3x10mm pan head screws * 2 x m3x15mm pan head screws * 2 x m3x40mm any screws If you choose to use a spring compressor, you can use flat head screws instead of truss head screws. You will also need the following springs: * Wire diameter: 0.5-1mm (0.0197-0.0394") * Outer diameter: 5-7mm (0.1969-0.2756") * Free length: 10-15mm (0.3937-0.5905") To assemble the extruder, follow these steps: * Use the m3x14mm truss head screws to mount the extruder to the idbox. * Use the m3 nuts and washers to secure the extruder in place. Print settings for this extruder are as follows: * Body settings: + Resolution: 0.2mm + Perimeter count: 4 + Infill: 30% + Rafts: Yes + Supports: Yes + Supports everywhere: No Idler settings: * Resolution: 0.2mm * Perimeter count: 4 * Infill: 60% (or higher) * Supports: Yes Bearing spacer settings: * Resolution: 0.2mm * Supports: No Spring compressor settings: * Resolution: 0.2mm * Supports: No Marlin firmware settings can be found in the configuration.h file. To invert the direction of motor rotation, set INVERT_E0_DIR to true. To calculate e_steps_per_mm, use the following formula: e_steps_per_mm = (motor_steps_per_rev * driver_microstep) * (big_gear_teeth / small_gear_teeth) / (hob_effective_diameter * pi) For reference, triffid hunter's calibration guide on reprapwiki provides a detailed explanation of this calculation. Bearing Spacer: If the bearing spacer does not fit in the hole of the motor, polish it with waterproof sandpaper to ensure a smooth fit. Spring Compressor: To increase pressure on the spring, insert the spring compressor between the screw head and the washer. When finished printing, remove the spring compressor from the screw head to reduce burden on the idler and spring. Washer Board: The washer board makes it easy to insert the spring compressor into place. Attach it to the screw head protruding from the idler for secure installation.
