Icosahedron - 20 sided shape net
thingiverse
I've entered my 20-sided Icosahedron into the maker ed challenge because I believe it has the potential to teach junior school children about shapes and nets in an interactive way. The net itself is relatively simple, making it easier for kids to understand and replicate. To assemble the shape, I used a thin layer of glue between the triangles to act as hinges, allowing it to fold together quickly. Building this 20-sided shape took approximately 40 minutes. Project: Exploring Nets of Shapes Objectives: * Junior school children learn about shapes and nets through hands-on activity * Students develop an understanding of three-dimensional nets and their potential applications Audiences: * Junior school students Preparation: * Students should have a basic understanding of 3D nets and be familiar with design software * The example of the 20-sided shape can be used to challenge students to create cubes or simpler shapes * Teachers can guide students in using design software to create their own net designs Steps: * Introduce junior school students to design software and guide them in creating simple net designs * Students print out their net designs and attempt to assemble the shapes, promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills
