Western players will find the icons easy to learn. You can print out a half-sized Chinese Chess board and play Banqi by printing one, or tape two together for a full game. I enjoy playing Banqi frequently. To assemble, download and print p1 and p2 twice each if using a Makerbot; larger print beds allow side-by-side printing of the entire set. Use enamel paint with a #1 fine tipped brush in the recesses for a polished look – acrylic can be used but apply a sealer for shine, as model paints may permeate and damage your piece. Store your set in kitlaan's excellent box (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:10397).
