This captivating location beneath Breiðamerkurjökull, Iceland, leaves a lasting impression due to its crystal-clear ice that allows visibility up to several meters inside. Consequently, photoscanning was not feasible for obtaining workable results. Instead, a quick base mesh was sculpted in ZBrush using the 'Trim Adaptive' brush primarily, aiming to achieve a convincing 'melted' effect after some initial sculpting of cracks and crevices. Using Sketchfab's internal refractive material option and a second mesh shell behind the first, it strives to give an ice-like appearance. A fascinating fact is that by the time the ice reaches the bottom of the glacier, it has been compacting for over a thousand years. During the summertime, glacial river streams shape these tunnels, which get further melted due to the influence of sunlight. This is why visiting this breathtaking place is only possible during the cold season. If you're lucky, the winter sun will just barely reach and dance around the cathedral-like ceiling of this awe-inspiring natural wonder.
