InterCityExperimental (also ICE/V, with V for Versuch, or ICExperimental2; in the project phase also R/S-VD for Rad/Schiene-Versuchs- und Demonstrationsfahrzeug) was a test electric train of Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) for the development of high-speed traffic in Germany. This train designed from late 1979 and built from 1983 to 1985 served many technical tests until its decommissioning on January 1, 2000. Its maximum authorized speed of 350 km/h was higher than that of all following ICE trains, and was surpassed in various demonstration runs and records. With a maximum speed of 406.9 km/h achieved in the world record journey of the ICE on May 1, 1988, it remained until December 1989 the fastest rail vehicle in the world, and still holds the German high-speed train speed record. The train consisted of two series 410 motor units and up to three series 810 cars. While one car was equipped with a measurement car, the other two served to demonstrate the possibilities of modern high-speed trains.
