Ice Scraper with conduit handle
thingiverse
I recently printed this fantastic, compact ice scraper http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:625925 for my Polaris RZR (extending the length slightly to fit neatly in the glove box) and was motivated to create something that could be used for my massive 3500HD pickup truck, so I designed this ice scraper featuring a hole in the handle for a 3/4" metal rod. Most standard ice scrapers are too flimsy and too short to clear all of the snow without approaching both sides of the vehicle, especially when you get over 300 inches of snow annually. By using an extended length of rod and a conduit bender, I created a gentle curve in the tubing that would allow me to clear most of the windshield from one side of the truck. I bonded it together with superglue and secured it with a hose clamp on the end of the printed handle to prevent possible splitting due to print orientation and leverage points. I chose 3/4" rod for the handle because it's affordable, reasonably strong, and easily shaped if you have a bender. Yes, mine is really long, but then again, it's for a pickup truck with a full-sized bed...you can naturally trim your conduit handle to whatever length suits your needs. Printed in ABS at .3 layer height, 2 perimeters, 50% infill. It takes a considerable amount of plastic...based on tolerances and how well your printer maintains the integrity of horizontal holes you may need some interior sanding.
