Ice Melt/Salt Spreader for Sidewalks
grabcad
I manage an apartment complex, and I wanted a better way of spreading ice melt than a bucket and a cup. This was a crude design made overnight out of frustration, so you are welcome to build on it! (I included the SLDPRT file)Things to consider:-Fertilizer spreaders work, but only when the ice melt is dry-Cups don't spread evenly at a fast pace-Quantity of ice melt held over lightweight is preferred when doing a large area-Able to use one-handed so you can carry a bucket with you I wanted to make it so it would scoop ice melt in easily, but it didn't work out so well. I just fill it up though since it holds so much and I usually am able to do the entire complex. What I would recommend:- Smaller model so it can scoop from a bucket- Create a way to scoop with the spreader itself (round edges didn't work out so well!)- Keep the holes around 8mm (it spreads the ice melt so well, and I am able to walk very quickly while doing it! The largest chunks I measured were around 5-6mm for reference)- Having an angled stop where the holes were worked way better than those that just have a screw-on cover with holes in it- The hand hole I made was extra large so that a glove could fit through it, but I designed that with a snowmobile glove on, so it was bigger than it actually needed to be(apologies for the colors, I had extra filament I was trying to get rid of!)
