Ice Fishing Drink Holder

Ice Fishing Drink Holder

myminifactory

Have you ever gone ice fishing and brought along some drinks, only to have them freeze solid on the snow? This clever device can be extended into the water without freezing your drinks, keeping them safely above the freezing point. Each cylinder is uniquely printed and tapered so it can either extend into the water or fold together into a single soda can height. The top cylinder includes a base that can be placed firmly on top of the ice and held down by weight or bolts/screws. This design uses parametric coding and is based in OpenSCAD software. I successfully printed a device with three cylinders to hold three drinks, requiring a unique inner radius for each cylinder in OpenSCAD. The formula to adjust this radius correctly for any design is explained in the "Master" OpenSCAD file included. I also shared three OpenSCAD files with specific parameters used in my prints and the STLs generated from those files. Overall, this print costs $12.12. Reducing the cylinder thickness or cutting out parts of the cylinder could lower the cost even further. Friends have offered me $30 for this device, leaving me a profit of $17.88 per unit sold. If I can sell 23 devices and complete each one in less than a day, I'll cover my RepRap-derived Athena II costs within a month.
