Ice Fidget Spinner Mold

Ice Fidget Spinner Mold

I wanted to create something truly unique for the fidget spinner design contest, rather than simply adding another detail to an existing design. To achieve this, I decided to print a mold out of flexible filament and craft an ice fidget spinner. This unconventional approach sparked my interest because it offered a chance to push boundaries and think outside the box. Moreover, it aligned with my desire for eco-friendly design principles. As I recall from my product design class on Instructables, we were taught that products should be created without harming our environment. The ice fidget spinner meets this criterion perfectly – once melted, it dissolves into pure water, leaving no ecological footprint behind. Before finalizing the model, I experimented with two different versions. The first iteration featured a large black mold made from PLA, but unfortunately, it proved impossible to remove the spinner from the mold, prompting me to try a flexible filament instead. My initial attempt at creating a flex mold was successful, albeit challenging due to its filled center. However, this experience led me to refine my design and create a third version without the central filling – and what a difference it made! The final model works seamlessly, making it easy to remove the spinner from the mold. I'm thrilled with how my design turned out and hope you'll appreciate it as well. Thanks for taking the time to read about my project; I wish you a wonderful day ahead!
