Ice cube lock
thingiverse
Here's my attempt at creating a timed lock using an ice cube as the mechanism. The design consists of three parts, all easily accessible with no need to freeze them beforehand or worry about the stress caused by expanding ice. The dimensions of this lock are quite generous, accommodating ice cubes up to 30x30x30mm in size. Under standard room conditions at 22°C, it takes approximately two hours for the lock to release. To use this timed lock, simply assemble the two main bodies together and insert an ice cube into one of them. Next, place a lid on top and wait patiently as the ice melts away. The lid is cleverly designed with a snap-fit that keeps it securely in place until the 'key' part is removed, at which point the lid falls out effortlessly.
