Ice Axe Pick and Bottom Point Cover

Ice Axe Pick and Bottom Point Cover

I designed these two covers to fit snugly onto my ice axe at the pick and bottom point by friction alone. They were specifically crafted with the PETZL GLACIER in mind, but I believe they can also work well on other ice axes. To secure them firmly in place, I created holes in both covers that allow a cord to be threaded through and tied off. My plan was to use a single cord with a carabiner attached to the end, tie it to the pick cover, pass it through one of the holes in the pick, and then have it continue down to the bottom cover, where it could be clamped into place. I'm confident that at least the pick cover can fit onto many other ice axes, which is why I've decided to share my design. When it comes to the dimensions, the steel pick on my axe measures 4mm thick, so I designed the slot it fits into to be 4.5mm wide. Similarly, the bottom steel point on my axe is 3mm thick, and I made the corresponding slot in the cover 3.5mm wide. Feel free to scale up or down along the Z-axis only to accommodate thicker or thinner steel parts on your own ice axe. Just keep in mind that you can't use this design for climbing purposes, even if you scale it up to larger sizes -
