Icarus

In ancient Greek mythology, Icarus is the son of Daedalus, the ingenious inventor who designed the labyrinthine Labyrinth. Frequently featured in artworks, Icarus and his father try to flee Crete using wings crafted from feathers and wax by Daedalus. His father cautions him against being overconfident and also warns him about hubris, advising him not to fly too low or too high so that the sea's moisture wouldn't damage his wings or the sun's heat melt them. Icarus disregards his father's warnings, flying recklessly close to the sun where the wax in his wings melts, causing him to plummet into the sea. This poignant tale of failure due to hubris bears striking similarities with the story of Phaëthon.
