IC-705 Peovi Carry Cage Antenna Mount
prusaprinters
Designed using a BNC to BNC mount thing I inherited from my great-grandfather (I'm not sure where to find new ones) but I have also had success with one of these “OPEK OPSM1” 3/8-24 to SO-239 adapters: https://www2.randl.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_2020&products_id=66140 With a small coax jumper, you can put a second one on the right side if you want and have both BNC and 3/8-24 antenna options. If you are using the BP-272, the radio will sit flat on a table and in my opinion is sufficiently stable to use antennas like the Comet HFJ-350M (with UHF-BNC adapter in my case) or the MFJ-1899T and similar. With the BP-307, the radio does not sit flat and so I would not recommend without use of something to hold the radio upright. With the 3/8-24 adapter, it's theoretically possible to use a lot of different hamstick options. Obviously this will be limited by the weight of the antenna and the strength of the plastic. One night I decided to try it with the MFJ-1979. Needless to say I had two hands on the rig at all times and would not recommend, but the part did not immediately break. I hope this goes without saying, but please don't destroy your radio trying to imitate my unbridled ambition. I recommend a material with good layer adhesion and minimal warping. I used PETG at 100% infill for the final part, but lower infill PLA parts were used in the first draft and didn't have any issues with the lighter antennas. Attaches to Peovi cage with the same screws as were included for the protective side rails (although I swapped the hex screws for Phillips equivalents for field adjustments since I carry a Leatherman). Second to last revision was too thin and I did not realize the screws were pushing past the cage into the radio a bit. Current revision (v4) corrects this, but do be careful with screws on your expensive radio. Learn from my mistakes. UPDATE:New v6 model can be used without removing the protective rails. I started from scratch in new software I have never used before, so it's a bit rough. The new software doesn't seem to support any type of fillet function at the moment, so it's a bit sharp. The final part is a little too long for my bag, so I'm still using v4 for now.
