Ibn al-Baytar

While on holiday in Benalmadena (Spain), I scanned a statue of Ibn al-Baytar (1197–1248 AD) (Sculptor: Reed Armstrong), a physician, botanist, pharmacist, and scientist. His main contribution was to systematically record the additions made by Islamic physicians in the Middle Ages, which added between 300 and 400 types of medicine to the one thousand previously known since antiquity. (Wikipedia) This monument presents a challenge for both 3D scanning and 3D printing. The bronze flower in Ibn al-Baytar’s hand is a small but important element of the entire monument. I managed to complete the scan of the monument by taking 240 images in Polycam’s Auto-Photo mode. Here is the link to the scan with the original texture on Polycam App (review), where it is possible to rotate the model 360 degrees. I printed this model in Elegoo Grey ABS-like resin on Elegoo Saturn 3 12K. In my review article, I explain in detail how I placed supports and what to watch. Was the model/idea/guide helpful?
