i3 mega stepper 120mm fan
thingiverse
There are numerous stepper driver ducts available, which I have printed and tested with underwhelming results. The main issue with stepper driver ducts is that they direct hot air from the X axis directly at the Y axis stepper motor. This results in a significantly hotter Y stepper motor on my i3_mega, equipped with TMC2208 drivers, which led to periodic layer shifts solely on the Y axis. Furthermore, the duct fan becomes increasingly noisy over time. To address these issues, I decided to install an oversized 120x10 ultra quiet Scythe fan that provides cool fresh air to the entire board. To enhance its performance, I used a simple print combined with the original board fan support, which I slightly bent to lower it. The outcome of this upgrade is impressive: there are no more layer shifts and the board appears content.
