i3 Mega FAN Covers for Noctua 40x40 fans
thingiverse
After scoring some fantastic 40x40 fans from Noctua, specifically for hotend cooling and stepper cooling, I embarked on a mission to find matching covers. The ones I came across were mostly generating an excessive amount of noise. Since the fans themselves are remarkably quiet, I thought it would be a shame. So, I fired up CAD and designed some that align perfectly with Noctua's airflow philosophy. I left the original metal cover in place but made significant holes to ensure optimum airflow. Now, there is hardly any difference between having the cover on or off. I'm thrilled with the results! For stepper coolers, I discovered numerous solutions online, but most of them had weird flow-funnels or were simply hanging in mid-air. I wanted something easier to mount, with good airflow and room for two Noctua 40x40 fans - which might be sufficient. I measured a significant 12dB drop in noise while printing, which is music to my ears! Have fun trying them out! Oh, and don't forget to turn the bottom plate of your i3 Mega case by 180 degrees.
