I Monti Cornicolani ed i Lucretili nel Pliocene
sketchfab
5 million years ago, the summits of the Cornicolan Mountains were islands emerging from the Pliocene sea. The entire Guidonia zone was a marine floor, while in the distance, the Gennaro massif and Soratte emerged, forming a small archipelago. Many marine deposits are visible today on our plains: during the Pliocene era, numerous geological and climatic factors contributed to greatly modifying the landscape. Gradually, the sea retreated, contributing to the movement of the coastline to where it is today and leaving behind lake mirrors that were then covered with eruptive material emitted by the Lazian Volcanoes.
