"I ♥ Math" Gift Cylinder

This design was crafted using an algorithm created by one of my research students, Zachary Ash. He has devised a method to project a digital image onto a surface (a manifold), such as the curved part of a cylinder. The inspiration behind this comes from George Hart's 3D printed cookie rollers: www.georgehart.com/rollers/. Note that the design is inverted, which results in a superior product because the bottom remains completely flat while the top features a dimpled appearance.
