I-Beam GeoCache
thingiverse
Container designed to fit snugly onto an I-beam of a guardrail. Guardrails often come equipped with these containers, though sizes may vary - most commonly found in this size. Feel free to modify according to your needs. Intended to snap securely onto the top of an I-beam, a container is attached on the bottom to hold logs for geocaching adventures. Initially, I considered creating separate containers for each side, but upon removal, it would be challenging to squeeze fingers into the tight space, leading me to opt for a single-sided design. To accommodate potentially thicker I-beams, I left gaps in the container's structure. Surprisingly, this simple design holds firmly in place and resists being blown away by wind. For added security, you could incorporate a magnet somewhere on the container. To edit the design further, I've included an f3d file for your convenience. When printing the container without supports from my usual software program, I found that adding some minimal supports near the log area facilitated easy removal after printing was complete. Notably, the interior of the "log area" still printed smoothly without additional supports and holds the log securely, despite a small amount of PLA hanging down - this does not compromise its functionality. Printing at the lowest settings possible proved to be sufficient for a satisfactory outcome.
